MINDFULNESS - Finding Sanity in a Chaotic World
Mindfulness is a simple and secular form of meditation which has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, depression and even physical pain.
So why is it becoming increasingly popular now?
Advances in technology have made it easy for us to communicate rapidly and effectively but the downside to this is the experience of information overload. We’re constantly bombarded with emails, texts and to-do lists and this isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. It seems we’re approaching the point in which our human minds are unable to keep up with the networked reality of technology…
The simple practices of Mindfulness meditation involve returning to an awareness of the present moment and, for example, becoming aware of one’s breathing or body sensations. The exercises give us back the “space” needed for us to be effective, work with clarity and simply feel human again. It also helps us to take a step back and separate from the non-stop thoughts and anxieties that prevent us from functioning to the best of our abilities. Through the practice one becomes able to objectify negative thought patterns, the “I’m not good enough” narratives and see them simply as story lines that we can let go of rather than having to identify with.
The practice of Mindfulness Meditation can also help us to become aware of our interconnectedness with others and life. It can help in developing a sense of meaning and purpose and gaining insight into who we truly are.
